How We Fish – Book Review

I was contacted recently by HarperCollins, the book publishers, to ask if I’d like to review How We Fish: The Love, Life and Joy of the Riverbank by Paul Whitehouse and John Bailey. Now I’m a big fan of Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing on BBC2 so of course I said yes. Now obviously the book is titled ‘How We Fish’ and

Ash Ponds – Stoke Xmas Fayre – 14th January 2024

Sunday was Stokes rearranged Xmas Fayre match on Ash Ponds and Parrett Works with 13 anglers on the river and 19 split between Ponds 2 and 3 at Ash. You could choose which venue you preferred and I went for Ash 2 as when I fished it for the first time in 2021, I’d really enjoyed it catching carp and some silvers

Landsend – Open – 13th January 2024

Nick and me headed to Landsend on Saturday for the open match on lake 2, twelve of us fishing today so basically every other peg in. I drew 19 on the far side which looked nice with a gap in the island and Nick was down on 15. It was pretty chilly and with the pond flat calm and painfully clear, it

Summerhayes – Open – 7th January 2024

We were back at Summerhayes on the Sunday but it was Longs this time and I must admit I wasn’t particularly looking forward to it as it’s been the tougher of the two lakes recently with 5-6lb winning the silvers. After Sellicks fished hard the previous day, I thought 4lb would be a good weight, especially with 23 anglers fishing and another

Summerhayes – Silvers Open – 6th January 2024

The weekend arrived and with it, finally some decent weather, after a nice breakfast the day got off to a great start when Pete handed me £30 for having the best silvers weight of the year in 2023 with 45lb 7oz. Only 9 of us fishing today so plenty of room, I said to Zooner before the start I wanted to be

Revels Fishery – Open – 2nd January 2024

For my first match of the New Year it was back to Revels but once again, the weather was awful and forecast to get worse as the day went on – great! I met Parker ‘The Pole’ at Greggs in Yeovil for breakfast and we bumped into Norts who was also stuffing his face! When we arrived, there were only three other

2023 Yearly Review

In last years review I wrote ‘What a year! I’m not really sure how I’ll better it but I’m sure I’ll have plenty of laughs (and breakfasts) trying’ and to be honest I really didn’t think I’d be able to top it but an incredible 12 months has done just that! So here are the highlights……. Summary 2023 has been fantastic on

Revels Fishery – Open – 30th December 2023

My final match of 2023 was back at Revels and as per usual I met Parker ‘The Pole’ at Greggs for breakfast. It looked like the weather might be a little better today but by the time we’d finished eating, normal service had resumed and it was chucking it down again! 18 fishing today and we’d be on Main, Dead Tree and

Acorn Fishery – Silvers Open – 28th December 2023

I was supposed to be fishing a match at Revels yesterday but with very strong winds and rains forecast, only four of us turned up so it was cancelled. Today we were booked in for the silvers open at Acorn but the weather was due to be rubbish again. After meeting Nick, Jenny and Parker ‘The Pole’ for breakfast we headed up

Summerhayes – Open – 26th December 2023

Boxing Day and it was back to Summerhayes, the first task was to find somewhere for breakfast and after driving to three separate places that were all closed, I was running out of options but Greggs in Bridgwater services came to my rescue! When I arrived at the fishery, there was a decent turnout of 14 including Bruce Hunt who I haven’t
