With a week booked off work, it would be rude not to fit in a bit of fishing so I headed down to Revels for the Tuesday open. There was the usual excellent turnout of 23 fishing today including Baz Morgan who I haven’t seen for ages. We assembled by the shop for the draw and with Main, Canal and Trendles being used today, as per usual I was hoping for a nice silvers swim on the first two. Baz was first on the list and got 20 on Main, a great silvers peg and he’d be hard to beat on there, as names were getting called out, rather worryingly (for me), there didn’t seem to be many numbers on Trendles getting mentioned!
When it was my turn, Dean delved into the bucket and I began mentally preparing myself for the walk up the hill, he selected a ball and when he looked, I’d avoided Trendles but peg 14 wasn’t what I wanted to hear either as it’s one of the best carp pegs on Main (it won the last match with 61lb). I was sure I’d be in for a torrid time of it today although 6lb of silvers has been enough to frame in recent matches so that would be my target.
We got underway and I fed several lines at four sections and 11.5 metres before starting down the edge on a top kit to hand. I began catching small perch quite well and had 20 fish after half an hour but bites slowed and I was only up to 28 with sixty minutes gone. Moving out to the top four lines produced a few fish including a skimmer but I also pulled out of one and had several tiny little carp.
After two hours I’ve had my first look on the longer lines and was getting odd fish including another skimmer and a bonus 12oz hybrid but as expected carp were being a real pain and my hooklength box was emptying at an alarming rate! I did manage a couple more skimmers including one just before the all out to finish with 74 fish which I hoped would go 6lb+.
I took some of my kit back to the car and asked Baz how he’d done, he said it had been a struggle but as he had 92 fish I felt sure he’d beaten me. After weighing in Trendles and Canal, the scales began making their way around Main and as they reached Scott C on 12, I went to have a look at the board. Alby was leading overall with an excellent 72lb 3oz from peg 38 while Andy Watts was winning the silvers with 5lb 11oz from 64 on Canal. Scott weighed 30lb 14oz of carp and then I was next, I had 4lb 14oz of ‘accidentals’ and my silvers went 7lb 3oz. Photos courtesy of Revels*

Steve Nadin on 33 weighed 36lb 15oz for third*
Back at the results and Baz had won it although it was a lot closer than I thought with just 6oz between us but to be honest if you’d offered me second in the silvers and £40 from 14 this morning, I’d have snatched your hand off!
