Summerhayes – 12th July 2026

After the previous days poor display, my confidence wasn’t high going into the Stoke match at Summerhayes on Sunday. With the extreme weather we’ve been experiencing combined with very low water levels, Pete had lost some skimmers and the silvers weights have been much more modest recently, in Saturday’s match, several anglers recorded 7lb+ so that would be my aim today.

Twelve of us fishing today and I was hoping for a peg in the thirties as it’s always a consistent area for silvers and got my wish when I pulled out 34. I got the usual little light rigs out and on the whistle I fed lines at top four, down the middle and 13 metres with little nuggets of groundbait before starting short. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much so when the float buried first put in and I had a nice ide, it took me a little by surprise. As I netted it, I noticed Norts over on peg 10 landing a decent skimmer so maybe this was going to fish better than I was anticipating!

My next indication resulted in a 4oz carp which was disappointing, I did manage a couple of small skimmers but also hooked two carp as my early optimism seemed to be misplaced. After an hour I had a look at 10 metres and a skimmer quite quickly was very welcome and then next chuck things got even better when I had nice pound plus tench.

My catch rate ticked over with odd fish for another hour or so before bites tailed off, adding a section I had a nice run of skimmers along with a couple of little tench. Regularly swapping lines was key with most fish coming just as the rig settled, I did have two leapers come off and bumped a few. Going into the final hour I went to 13 metres and had another two skimmers, a couple of tench and just before the all out, a 6oz hybrid.

I packed up and went to help with the weigh in, Nick P on 28 had 38lb 10oz of carp, Chanter weighed 47lb 2oz, Luke W had 55lb 9oz and then my 30 silvers weighed 10lb 14oz and I had 26lb 2oz of ‘accidentals’. Roy on 36 was next and went into the lead with an excellent 124lb 10oz and Terry ‘The Toast’ had also broke the ton with 115lb 1oz.

Back at the results and Nick V had the top weight in the other section with 76lb 3oz and Norts had done really well on peg 10 catching 7lb 12oz of silvers.
