My last visit to Todber saw me draw one of the best pegs on the lake and not do it justice while getting battered both sides so whatever happened this week would be an improvement! The day got off to a great start in the Lakeside Kitchen when I went for the pancakes, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast which was bloody lovely and I’ll definitely be having that again.
All too soon it was time for ‘The Bucket of Doom’ and I decided to employ the hanging back technique even though it’s been a little sketchy lately. When pegs 62 (Rod D) and 64 (Nick P) went early, I decided to go for it but when I opened my ticket, the numbers 6 and 3 were staring back at me, the worst peg on the lake and I knew my day was done already!
Not the view I wanted Saturday morning!
On the whistle I fed lines down the edge and 14.5 metres before starting on the waggler and corn across. After an hour of flogging that, all I had to show for my efforts was one small skimmer and the writing was on the wall already. Things never really improved for me with just odd fish on the pole and rather than drag this out (as I’m so far behind with my reports!), I’ll make this one short and (not so) sweet.
Rod on 62 did well with 16lb, my fish went 9lb 4oz, Nick had 7lb 8oz, Steve W on 65 weighed 4lb 8oz and Bob D had 9lb 12oz before Andy A stormed into the lead with 44lb 8oz. Steve had 16lb, Roy ‘The Bomb’ on 69 went into second spot with 24lb 8oz, Derek P had 4lb 8oz, Tim M weighed 16lb and Jim P on 72 chucked back. Jack Stamp showed his class once again when after an hour he realised it was fishing really hard so got his head down catching hundreds of tiny fish for 17lb and third place, Simon L DNW’d and Adrian Dew on 75 had 13lb 8oz.
