No rest for the wicked as the matches and reports are churned out by the blog factory, please bear with me if they’re slightly shorter and not up to their usual high (cough, cough) quality!
It was another Summerhayes Sunday on Longs with 19 fishing this week, I was fairly near the top of the list and pulled out 30 which is another great peg. Dan T was next door on 29 so we had a pound on silvers per usual. I set up the usual little light rigs for lines at top four plus 13 and 14.5 metres. On the side tray I had lots of maggots, some disco pinkies and I’ve also been trying the new Dark Brown Ground Expander groundbait and Yellow Sprinkles from Bait-Tech. The groundbait mixes up lovely, you need to add plenty of water and leave it before pushing it through a riddle which results in a lovely fluffy mix and then I add the Sprinkles after, they smell amazing and provide a vibrant contrast to the darker groundbait.

Great new products from Bait-Tech
On the whistle I cupped in little nuggets of gb with some pinkies on the top two plus two lines and began pinging maggots across. I had a nice start swapping between the short lines catching ide, roach, skimmers plus a couple of little tench and after two hours had 27 fish but bites were beginning to fade. A new line at 8 metres resulted in three or four fish but it was short lived so I went across to the island and had a lovely hour catching quality roach, ide and little chublets.
I could see Glynn and McKenzie on the bottom bank netting fish and apparently Roy on 15 and Alex on 36 were both catching well, Dan had a few early on but was now struggling. Typically as we headed towards the latter stages of the match, I started hooking a few carp and one snagged me in the far bank reeds which had the potential to end badly but thankfully the rig came back still intact apart from a rather bent out of shape hook! A pound skimmer was a nice bonus and when I had a decent roach next chuck, I had visions of a strong finish but in the last thirty minutes I only had one carp and finished up with 77 fish for around 10-11lb.
As the weigh in started there were the usual shenanigans with lots of people being rather coy (or should that be rather Roy!) with their estimations and several people admitting to having just into double figures while Mr Hughes was saying he’d had a terrible day (so a guaranteed 10lb+ then!).
Zooner on peg 1 had a nice net of fish for 9lb 15oz, Roger K weighed 7lb 14oz of silvers and then Oscar set the bar high with an excellent 47lb 12oz on peg 7. Alan J chucked back on 9, Sir Bill of ‘The Paste’ had 3lb 4oz of skimmers on 11 and Kev ‘O weighed 24lb 15oz of mainly carp. No one was surprised when Roy’s bad day turned into 10lb 13oz which was the top silvers weight so far. McKenzie had 6lb 9oz on 17 and then Alan H was the new overall leader with 58lb 15oz from peg 19.

Zooner had 9lb 15oz of silvers on peg 1

Oscar weighed 47lb 12oz on peg 6

Another bad day at the office for Roy as he ‘only’ weighed 10lb 13oz!

Alan H had 58lb 15oz of mainly carp on peg 19
Glynn was next and had done well on 21 to weigh 11lb 8oz of silvers which included a big eel and he lost one as well, Steve Collins had 51lb 8oz of carp on 26 (and thankfully avoided summoning all the emergency services this week!), Big Bad Bob weighed 8lb 2oz and Dan T had 2lb 12oz of silvers. Then it was me and I knew it would be close and was relieved when Pete called it at 12lb 10oz which put me in the lead but there was still Alex left to weigh and he was admitting to 12lb.

Snake charmer Glynn weighed 11lb 8oz of silvers on peg 21

Mr Blues and Twos had 51lb 8oz on peg 26

I had a really enjoyable, busy day catching 77 fish for 12lb 10oz
Rog C on 32 had 18lb 15oz and then Nick Chedzoy went into second place overall with 54lb 13oz, Paul Smith was on golden peg 35 and weighed 28lb 10oz which included 7lb 10oz of silvers and then last to weigh was Alex who won with a great net of fish for 15lb 3oz.

Nick Chedzoy was second on the day with 54lb 13oz

Another silvers win for Alex, this time with 15lb 3oz on peg 36
1 – Alan Hurley (Summerhayes) – 58lb 15oz
2 – Nick Chedzoy (Summerhayes) – 54lb 13oz
3 – Steve Collins (Summerhayes) – 51lb 8oz
Silvers
1 – Alex Kerr (Summerhayes) – 15lb 3oz
2 – Jamie Rich (Bait-Tech/Colmic) – 12lb 10oz
3 – Glynn Wickham (Summerhayes) – 11lb 8oz
As always there were lots of close weights which makes for a good match and it’s great to see decent nets of silvers coming out all around the lake. I picked up £30 for second in the silvers and it’s just really enjoyable fishing with lots of bites.
Donations from Nick P (£2), me (£2), Rob Wylde (£1) and Paul Smith (£1) plus nuggets from Zooner and Dan T saw the charity total shoot up to £239.
