Acorn Fishery – Open – 13th September 2025

On Saturday it was another of Foxy’s opens at Acorn and I drew peg 13 on the far side, an area I seem to frequent a lot while Nick was on my dream peg, number 40. I set up rigs to fish two lines at 10 metres and another for the top kit plus one.

Kicking off on the longer lines, it was a slow start, I missed a couple of bites and then pulled out of a fish before landing a foulhooked carp. With 45 mins gone that was the sum total of my efforts so I’ve had a look on the shorter line a lot earlier than I would’ve liked. A second foulhooker wasn’t ideal as my match stubbornly refused to spark into life! I’ve finally opened my silvers account after 1.5 hours with an ide and then had a great spell landing five skimmers for probably 6lb but it was short lived.

There were obviously a lot of fish there as I had two foulhooked tench and pulled out of a couple but it wasn’t really happening. I tried starting a new line and had another look at 10 metres but was only getting odd fish. The wind was being a real pain pushing the rig back at me and with around an hour to go, I tried going half a section past the feed and the float went straight under resulting in a lovely roach. Next chuck I had a tench and began catching really well including a (non-counting) carrassio and a fan-tail. With ten minutes to go I hooked a fish which felt like a big tench so I took my time before netting a four pounder. Next chuck, the float went again and it felt like another lump but it came off and there was little scale on the hook.

That was the last of the action and I was left kicking myself for not going past the feed earlier, I thought I had around 28lb which I didn’t think would be enough today. Nick phoned and said he’d weighed 34lb 15oz and when the scales reached me, my fish went 31lb 13oz and looking at the board, Duffers had 31lb 15oz on peg 1 so really close weights with just one fish between the three of us.

Back at the results and Lee M had the top weight with 173lb 9oz followed by Matthew T on 171lb 12oz, Mark W with 164lb and Nick won the silvers.
