Todber Manor – Silvers Open – 1st November 2025

November kicked off with my first visit to Todber for a few weeks, draw time soon arrived and as per usual, Mr Dew and me hung back hoping to avoid 62 and 63. With most of the pegs taken, it was beginning to look like we might have made a tactical error as there were only three tickets left and 63 was one of them! Adrian went before me and thankfully he selected it, he was so disgusted he’s since taken the rather drastic action of having a new drawing arm surgically implanted, get well soon mate! Then I drew 66 which actually won last Saturday with 10lb so was fairly happy although I’d rather have had 71 which was the last ticket in the bucket.

I set up a couple of pole rigs for 13 metres plus a little feeder rod and on the side tray I had maggots, pinkies, a few worms and little Bait-Tech Special G F1 Dark groundbait. On the whistle I fed the pole line before starting on the feeder across, my regular neighbour, Pete Neate next door had a nice skimmer first chuck so hopefully we’d be in for a good day. After 15 mins, my tip pulled right round and a 10oz skimmer got me off the mark, I was getting a few knocks and added a second skimbob just before the first hour came to a close.

Odd better fish were coming out on the pole lines so I had a look at 13 metres and caught three little skimmers and some small roach but also briefly hooked what felt like a big fish and had a nice skimmer come off shipping back. As we approached the half way point, it was hard going although by all accounts, Andy A and Ade West were catching well on 72 and 75.

Back on the feeder I missed a couple of indications before catching a decent skimmer but bites were now few and far between. I did manage one more on the pole and lost a good fish but it had been a real struggle and I wasn’t too upset to hear the all out. Nick on 62 had already gone, Adrian had 4lb+, Mike H did really well on 64 with 8lb 2oz, the guy on my left weighed 6lb odd, I only had 3lb 8oz and Pete weighed 5lb plus so in his words I’d had a proper ‘Harry Ramsden’s’!

Roy Worth and Matt Skyme on 69 and 70 both weighed 8lb 8oz, there were a couple of 7lb+ weights (sorry I forgot to get a photo of the weigh board this week), Andy A had an excellent 15lb 6oz to win and Ade West wasn’t far behind with 14lb 4oz.

I had to give Roy and Adrian nuggets which finished the day off nicely!*

Roy very kindly donated the nuggets he won today and Adrian gave me a pound from last week as the Nugget-O-Meter reached £13.
