I could get used to this fishing three times a week (and only working four days!) although as you may have noticed, it means there’s a bit of a satellite delay in the match reports coming out. After drawing a great peg last Thursday, I was hoping for another one but pulled out number 5 on the island, the best carp swim in the South West! To be fair it can do some great silvers weights, Dave Willmott had 35lb on it fairly recently but then Dave can seem to ‘magic’ them from anywhere! Simon Stacey was next door on 4 and Des was over on peg 7 which hasn’t been great area for silvers.

Peg 5 on the island, an awesome carp swim!

Des (chatting to Lee Woodhouse) was over on peg 7
Starting across, the first fish I hooked was a carp which had me fearing the worst already! I began getting the odd ide and also lost a fish I suspect may have been a tench. After an hour I had six ide and although Simon was catching regularly I wasn’t a million miles behind at this early stage but then it started absolutely chucking it down (which was nice!).
Trying 11.5 metres, I had an ide but that was it (apart from carp!) and similarly the short line was a flop, I did catch one skimmer and lost a foul hooked ide but it’s been a real struggle and I only ended up with 7 ide and a skimmer. The scales soon arrived and Mark Broomsgrove on 1 weighed 13lb 9oz, Paul Dicks had 11lb 11oz, Kev Perry on 3 had a tough day for 7lb 4oz, Simon had 14lb 1oz which wouldn’t be far away today and then my fish went 5lb 3oz.
Dan on peg 6 had gone, Des weighed 10lb 13oz, George on 9 had 3lb, pegs 10 and 12 didn’t weigh so it had fished quite hard by Acorn’s standards. Back at the results and Dave Willmott had done it again with 16lb 15oz from peg 33 and not far behind were Alex Kerr on 15 and Darrel B on 25 who both weighed 16lb 2oz and qualified as they won their respective zones.
