After drawing one of the best silvers pegs on the lake and making a right mess of it on Thursday, I was back for another go two days later! Things definitely didn’t get off to a great start when I pulled out peg 16 on the far side which hasn’t been very good at all recently. In fact, Gareth Boycott was next door and said he’d nearly headed straight back over the border into Wales which didn’t instill me with much confidence! I also rather stupidly agreed to a pound side bet with him and Clayton on 19.

At least we had blue skies and it wasn’t windy!
On the whistle I fed the usual lines at top four, down the middle and pinged maggots across, starting over it took nearly an hour to get a bite (which I missed). I had an ide and a very small skimmer but I already had a feel for how today was going to go. Gareth had caught a carp first chuck but it was a false dawn and he only added a couple of decent skimmers while Clayton was catching little spells of ide fishing over, Mike on my right (peg 15) never had a bite and packed up after three hours.
The only place I could catch was across although bites were very sporadic and by the end of the match I’d only managed ten fish which went 6lb 10oz, Gareth weighed 8lb 13oz of silvers and a couple of carp for 9lb 12oz while Clayton had 13lb 1oz of ide which meant the nuggets headed back across the bridge with Gareth.
Howard Green won the match comfortably with 101lb 8oz from peg 9 while Martin Rayet showed how it should be done on peg 2 by winning the silvers with 23lb 14oz.
