On Saturday I headed down to Todber for the first time this year, a hearty breakfast set us up for the day and then the next job was to avoid drawing a peg at the near end. As per usual Adrian Dew and myself employed our patented hanging back technique, with only a few tickets left we selected one each and Ade looked disappointed with 72 while I managed to avoid the first three swims but 65 wasn’t much better!

On the whistle I fed a pole line at 13 metres before starting on a little groundbait feeder across and missed a bite first chuck which took me a little by surprise! I was getting a few indications and had a couple of 6oz skimmers, a rudd and a cracking roach but probably stayed on the feeder a bit too long. On the pole I began catching odd skimmers and roach although it wasn’t frantic.
Everyone at the near end was struggling but I could see landing nets being regularly being used further up the lake. With around an hour to go, I added a section and caught quite well including a 12oz skimmer but I knew I hadn’t done any good today. When the scales arrived, I was actually first to weigh as the three to my left had all chucked back, my 31 fish went 7lb, Steve on 66 had 4lb and Martin F weighed 3lb.

I had 31 fish for 7lb*
Steve Taylor on 68 went into the lead with 15lb but Amanda next door just pipped him with an excellent 15lb 4oz of skimmers and roach. Mike H had 7lb 10oz, Steve O on 71 weighed 8lb 14oz and then Adrian Dew had some big skimmers on the maggot feeder for 13lb 8oz to go into third spot. The weights tailed off again towards the top end, Jamie W had 5lb 4oz, Roy ‘The Bomb’ weighed 3lb and Andy A on 75 had 5lb 8oz. Photos courtesy of Todber Manor*

Steve Taylor weighed 15lb for second place*

Amanda had the top weight on the day with a nice net of skimmers and roach for 15lb 4oz*

Adrian Dew had some big bream for 13lb 8oz and third place*
1 – Amanda Rowett (Todber) – 15lb 4oz
2 – Steve Taylor (Todber) – 15lb
3 – Adrian Dew (Todber) – 13lb 8oz

The Nugget-O-Meter had a fantastic day, Adrian Dew very kindly gave me £10 from all the pounds accumulated in recent matches plus the two nuggets he won today, Roy Worth added a pound and £2 each from Nick P and me saw the total jump up to £212.
