It was back down to Todber on Saturday as I haven’t been for a few weeks, a fantastic breakfast as always in the Lakeside Kitchen set us up for the day and then it was time for the draw. I decided against my patented hanging back technique this week as it’s not been serving me too well recently and I keep getting pegs at the near end. Well it worked to a certain degree as I pulled out 75 at the other end which I had somewhat mixed feelings about as the middle pegs have been dominating lately.

From one end to the other!
I set up rigs to fish down the edge and 13 metres, starting short on a top kit, I began catching little roach and a hybrid but I certainly wasn’t pulling any trees up. It was a similar story on the longer line with small fish being a bit of a pain. With a big bush to my left, I couldn’t really tell how people were doing and had to rely on the bankside banter which indicated it was fishing quite hard apart from Rod Dunford on 71 who was catching well on the feeder.
With around two hours to go and not much in the net, it still sounded like low double figures might be enough to sneak in the frame so I decided to get my head down and see what I could catch on a top kit. It was a bite a chuck for the rest of the match from small roach and the odd skimbob but no better fish.
As the scales began working their way up the pond, Adrian Dew had done well on 62 with 14lb 2oz, Mike H weighed 7lb 4oz on 64, Andy A had 16lb 2oz, Martin F weighed 15lb 12oz on 67, Derek P had 5lb 1oz and then Ade West had a level 16lb. Nick P chucked back and the Rod D had a brilliant 30lb 2oz which included some big skimmers and tench. Dave B on 72 didn’t weigh, Roy ‘The Bomb’ had 11lb 8oz and then my fish went 10lb 2oz. Rod won comfortably with a lovely net of big skimmers and tench for 30lb 2oz*

Andy A was second with 16lb 2oz*

Ade West took third spot with 16lb*
1 – Rod Dunford (Todber) – 30lb 2oz
2 – Andy Akehurst (Sensas) – 16lb 2oz
3 – Ade West (Todber) – 16lb

At the nugget handing over ceremony, Martin Fuller received all the shiny gold pounds before kindly donating them to charity*

After Rod’s weight, it was really close with just 6oz separating second and fourth, as for me, I was a bit all over the place today, I’ve not fished a great match and it would have been interesting to see what weight was possible if I’d just fished the top kit all day as I probably had 6-7lb in two hours.
The charity had another brilliant day thanks to Adie who let me have £7 from the side bets in recent matches, Nick P and me both stuck £2 each in the pot and Martin Fuller very kindly donated the £4 he took off us today as the Nugget-O-Meter shot up to £359.
