For my final match of the year, I headed back to Revels and after really enjoying last Tuesday I was hoping for a similar day to finish 2025 on a high. There was the usual great turnout of 22 anglers and when my name was called Dean pulled out 66 on Canal which I was very happy with. Dead Tree has been the lake for silvers in recent weeks but Mark Sheppard had 5lb+ on 68 last week and I didn’t think that sort of weight would be far away today.

My peg looked nice although the lake was tap water clear and I thought we might be in for a very slow start, for company I had Dave S on 68 and Jimmy C to my right. We got underway and I fed three lines at 10 metres with small nuggets of groundbait and a few pinkies. As expected, not a lot happened for me and Dave although Jimmy went to reel in and a there was a decent fish on which led him a merry dance before he netted a lumpy carp.
After ninety minutes, despite rotating round my lines and having a look across to the far bank, the float hadn’t even flickered, it was a similar story for Dave and he went for a wander to see how the other lakes were fishing. On his return he reported that the anglers on Middle and Main were struggling although they were catching a few fish up on Dead Tree.
Dave put some chopped worm in down the middle and when he said he’d missed a bite, I thought he must be seeing things but then next chuck I saw him carefully shipping back with some elastic showing before he swung in a little perch. He had a couple more and when I saw a small fish top, I honestly thought I’d start getting a few bites but my float was stubbornly refusing to show any signs of moving!
Another look across to the far bank at 14.5 metres and finally the float went under as a 1oz perch saved the blank and despite hoping that might signal a run of fish, that was my lot and I never had another indication. Dave ended up with nine little perch for 7oz and Jimmy didn’t add to his early carp. At the all out, there was no point in me troubling the scales and back at the results it had been tough for most. Jamie Bumby had the top weight with 21lb 5oz from peg 2 on Main and that included a chub of 1lb 6oz which would have been enough for second in the silvers on its own! Photos courtesy of Revels*

Dean Stacey continued his great run of form, winning the silvers with 3lb 15oz from Dead Tree (peg 50), Roy ‘The Bomb’ Worth was second overall with 20lb from 52 and Neil Saxby needed just 15oz on peg 48 for second in the silvers. The ever consistent Andy Miller took third spot with 18lb 2oz from peg 20 on Main and Derek Purchase had one skimmer of 12oz on peg 4 (Main) for third in the silvers.
