Acorn Fishery – Open – 14th March 2026

It was back up to Acorn on Saturday and I was fairly happy when I pulled out 31, a decent area for silvers so hopefully I should have a few bites. Although we’d had a frost it was turning into a gorgeous day and with some ide topping I was really looking forward to this.

On the whistle I fed a top kit plus one line and two at 11.5 metres before kicking off across by the boards and pinging maggots. It took ten minutes to get a bite and then I started catching quite well, 2 decent skimmers, 8 ide and a couple of roach in the first hour. The second sixty minutes was fairly steady but bites began to slow up so I had a look on the 11.5 metre lines and had 5 ide in as many chucks but it was short lived.

Once again the short swim was a bit of a flop with just one ide but the rest had done the long line good and I had a brilliant spell catching 3 decent skimmers, a nice tench and big 1.5lb ide. I really thought I was going to bag up for the last 20 mins or so but then missed loads of bites before having 2 ide in the last few minutes.

I finished up with 62 fish (6 skimmers, the same number of roach, a tench and the rest ide) which I thought would go around 35lb but I didn’t think it would do any good as Mark Broomsgrove on 34 and Ben Brooks on 3 had caught silvers well. When the scales got to Mark, I went to have a look and when he weighed 41lb, I knew I didn’t have that and my fish went 33lb 14oz. Back at the results and Mark Williams was the top weight on the day with 118lb 14oz from peg 9 and Ben had a fantastic 57lb 14oz of mainly ide but as he also had a few carp to weigh 63lb 6oz, he won the section and Mark B took the silvers by default.

1 – Mark Williams (Acorn) – 118lb 14oz
2 – Martin Rayet (Acorn) – 103lb 15oz
3 – Pedro Harris (Acorn) – 84lb 9oz

A really enjoyable days fishing although I’m still not really getting my head round these ide and missing far too many bites but those who are doing it right are recording some brilliant weights.
