Only seven of us fishing which meant it would be a rover and as I was top of the list, I had to draw the golden ball which was choice 3 today and then, as so often is the case, I only went and pulled it again! Rob B got first choice and went for 34, Tony H was next and chose 32, I went for 30, Kev ‘O decided on peg 2, Nick had 36, Spud picked 15 and Glynn sat next to me on 28.

Of course as it was the weekend, yet again it was stupidly windy and I’m getting seriously fed up with it now. Pete got us underway and I fed two lines at top four, one at 10 metres and a couple of swims at 13 metres (although I wasn’t sure I’d actually be able to fish them!). Starting short it took me a while to get a bite while Tony on my left was fishing down the middle and flew out of the blocks catching decent skimmers. I was getting odd fish but felt I was falling further and further behind my neighbour so went to 10 metres earlier than I would have liked.
A decent run of fish on this line, including some better skimmers, meant I was at least keeping pace with Tony. Dan T came for a wander and said Nick was also catching well and had double figures of silvers but was also landing quite a few carp. With two hours to go, bites began to fade so I had a look at 13 metres and despite the wind being a nightmare, I started catching quite well and had several decent skimmers along with a nice hybrid. Tony was still getting odd fish but I didn’t think there was much between us now.
Carp hadn’t been too much of a pain but with just half an hour remaining, I hooked one that tore off snapping my elastic in the process so I picked up my short rig and managed a few more skimmers across before the all out. I finished up with 54 silvers (skimmers, a tench, hybrid, crucian plus some nice roach) and 3 carp.
Kev ‘O was first to weigh and had 25lb 13oz of carp, Spud did well on 15 with 14lb 8oz of silvers as he had the wind hacking into the corner, Glynn had 51lb 3oz of mainly carp to go into the lead and then my silvers went 22lb 5oz and my carp added 16lb 2oz. Tony had a nice net of silvers for 17lb 9oz, Rob weighed 13lb 5oz and then Nick had 58lb 3oz (including 13lb 5oz of silvers) which was top weight on the day.

A rather windswept Chris on peg 15 did well catching 14lb 8oz

I had a lovely day catching 22lb 5oz of silvers (and 16lb 2oz of carp)

Nick had the top weight on the day with 58lb 3oz (including 13lb 5oz of silvers)
1 – Nick Payne (Ilminster) – 58lb 3oz
Silvers
1 – Jamie Rich (Bait-Tech/Colmic) – 22lb 5oz

So a cracking days fishing and a nice pick up of £131 (including £95 from the golden ball).

£2 each from Nick P and me took the Nugget-O-Meter up to £237.
