On Tuesday it was my first trip of the month to Revels and I just wish I could fish every Tuesday (although it wouldn’t help with the backlog!). After meeting ‘The Pole’ for breakfast, we soon arrived and whereas my drawing arm has been somewhat misfiring, Dean was having no such problems on my behalf and in my last four visits he’d pulled out 51, 7, 53 and 49 which are all great silvers pegs. Main and Trendles were the lakes being used today and the first objective would be for Deano to avoid the latter for me. When my name was called, he delved in and peg 9 on Main was to be my home for the day, it wouldn’t have been my first choice but at least I’d avoided going up the hill to Trendles.
The swim looked quite nice with some small fish topping but it was already shaping up to be a very hot day and there were lots of big black shapes cruising around. With carp anglers on the better silvers pegs and vice versa I did think there was a decent chance of sneaking in the frame with a low-ish weight. On the whistle I fed a top kit swim, two lines at top four and another couple at 11.5 metres with small amounts of groundbait and pinkies.
Starting off on the top kit to hand it was a bite a chuck from small perch, rudd and odd roach, after half an hour I had 30 fish and with an hour gone I was up to 52. Going into the second hour I was still getting enough bites to keep me interested and by the end of the second sixty minutes, the clicker was reading 84 fish but it was slowing up. Moving out to the top four lines, I began catching a few more roach and then struck into a better fish which I could see in the clear water was a big skimmer. Shipping back very gently it came off and I was gutted as that would have been a massive bonus today.
I did manage a smaller one of 12oz or so not long after which settled me down a little bit and I carried on catching some chunky roach. With around two hours remaining I’ve had my first look at 11.5 metres where I’d been pinging maggots and it was really good with some decent roach and then I’ve had a 1.5lb skimmer. Over the next ninety minutes I’ve had another six skimmers up to 2lb and couldn’t quite believe it! Bites were coming either on the drop or as the rig settled and it was just brilliant fishing although I did pull out of one.
It wasn’t all sweet smelling roses though as typically a few carp muscled in, swapping between two swims at 11.5 metres helped somewhat but when I hooked several in quick succession, I’ve tried the top kit line again. First put in, the float buried with another carp tearing off so that was enough of that. The top four line resulted in a flurry of roach on pinkies and then I’ve had my ninth skimmer.
For the last half an hour I went back long and caught quite a few roach to finish up with 160 fish and the day had flown by. When the scales arrived after weighing in Trendles, Rich Butler was leading with 44lb 13oz of carp but it had fished hard for silvers. Andy Miller on 6 had 6lb 6oz of mainly roach to go into the lead, Steve Nadin next door weighed 28lb 2oz and Jon Bass on 8 had 27lb 6oz. I chucked back my accidental carp and then my silvers went 18lb 8oz, Derek chucked back on 10 and Scott C weighed 28lb 10oz before the scales headed round the far side.

Back at the car park for the results and Amanda had the top weight with an excellent 61lb 9oz of carp from peg 14 with Rich second and Big Al third with 41lb 10oz.
