On Sunday we were on Sellicks at Summerhayes, I was near the top of the list and actually managed to avoid my ex-favourite peg 16 but pulling out 2 didn’t fill me with joy either. I must have looked a little glum as Pete decided to serenade me with the world’s smallest violin!
It’s one of the narrowest pegs on the lake which I never think is great for silvers and when I’ve drawn it previously, plumbing up, the bottom is all over the place. All in all, can you tell I wasn’t really feeling it today!
We got underway and I fed lines at top four, down the middle and pinged maggots across. It took 40 mins to get my first indication but foulhooking a carp wasn’t ideal! Next chuck I had a big skimmer and that signalled the start of a really good spell where I had another four skimmers, two little tench and a roach.
With 2.5 hours gone, I’ve gone across to the island and lost a carp before catching a 12oz eel, I was getting a few little tench and also had a small perch. Swapping between the two longer lines I was putting the odd fish in the net but the short (top two plus two) swim was a waste of time with just a single missed bite.
As we headed toward the end of the match, carp began to be a pain and I hooked one that snapped the elastic and I lost one of my favourite floats – gutted. There wasn’t much time left so I quickly plumbed up with my light rig and first put in I hooked a decent roach or small tench but it came off which pretty much summed up the second half of the match for me!
I only ended up with 18 fish (5 skimmers, 3 roach, 1 eel, 1 perch and 8 tench) but didn’t really have a clue how I’d done as it felt like it had fished quite hard. The scales were soon with me and my three carp went 11lb 8oz before the silvers weighed a level 14lb. Coops on 4 had 37lb 1oz of carp, Rich S weighed 23lb 13oz, Alex had 7lb 14oz of silvers and Mark W weighed 22lb 10oz.
Steve Collins on 13 went into the lead with 57lb, Nick P had 9lb 10oz of silvers, Steve Raybould weighed 12lb 10oz, Adie on 18 had 35lb 12oz, Phil B weighed 43lb 10oz which put him second so far, Big Bad Bob was next with a nice net of of silvers for 13lb 10oz and then last but not least was Zooner who had a dozen big skimmers for 25lb 8oz to comfortably win the silvers and take a nugget off me.

So I finished second in the silvers picking up £27 which was better than a kick up the bum!
