Summerhayes – Open – 26th April 2026

It was back to Summerhayes the following day for a match on Longs, I was near the top of the list for the draw and pulled out a screamer in the shape of number 30 on the track bank.

On the whistle I fed the usual lines at top four, down the middle, 13 metres and across to the island. It was flat calm and with the carp spawning I thought the fishing might be tricky today. Starting short I was into fish quite quickly as were my neighbours Roy and Zooner which rather knocked my theory of it fishing hard into a cocked hat! Swapping between two lines at top four, I was catching really well and kept expecting it to slow but if anything it got better and better.

I stayed short for 3.5 hours and had 11 crucians, a couple of tench, a roach, 2 perch and loads of skimmers before bites faded. Moving out to 10 metres I was hoping for another run of fish but only had a single small skimbob, 13 metres was next and I had another brilliant spell catching skimmers, quality roach and two more tench. With 20 minutes remaining I stuck the number 14.5 metre section on and had five skimmers. What a lovely day, I finished up with 61 fish and had also bumped/lost a few as well.

I thought I must have between 25-30lb and was feeling pretty confident until we got to Alex on 38 (a peg I wouldn’t have fancied at all) and he was admitting to 30lb+, in fact he weighed a stunning 35lb 4oz, a lovely net of fish. Parker ‘The Pole’ was the first peg on ‘Cyanide Straight’ and had a nice day catching 11lb 8oz of silvers, Nigel J didn’t weigh and then Dan Squire on peg 7 had a massive 196lb 14oz of carp (and he chucked a load of silvers back!).

Alex Kerr on 38 had a brilliant 35lb 4oz

Dan Squire weighed 196lb 14oz to just about sneak the match win!

Big Bad Bob weighed 36lb 15oz, Steve ‘Mr Consistent’ Collins on 13 had 73lb 1oz of mainly carp, Craig L weighed 54lb 6oz and Sean D on 18 had 62lb 14oz. Mark L on 21 weighed 42lb 3oz (including 14lb 11oz of silvers), Bill ‘The Paste’ had 22lb 8oz, Mark W weighed 29lb 5oz and Roy Hughes on 28 had 13lb 4oz of silvers.

Then it was me and I knew I wouldn’t beat Alex’s weight but I wasn’t a million miles away and 31lb 13oz was a new pb silvers weight on Longs. Zooner had 13lb 1oz, Nick P weighed 30lb of carp and 13lb 12oz of silvers and last but not least was Steve Chant on 36 who had 53lb 14oz.

31lb 13oz was my best ever silvers weight on Longs but still only good enough for second place

1 – Dan Squire (Nytro) – 196lb 14oz
2 – Steve Collins (Summerhayes) – 73lb 1oz

Silvers
1 – Alex Kerr (Summerhayes) – 35lb 4oz

What a fantastic days fishing, I picked up £34 for second in the silvers and thoroughly enjoyed that,

Craig L gave me a pound and with a nugget from Zooner the charity total reached £297.
