Summerhayes – Open – 7th June 2026

The following day at Summerhayes there was a decent turnout and when it was time to draw I had lots of pegs on my wish list but pulled out 21 which wasn’t one of them! To be fair it’s produced some decent silvers weights in recent matches but it’s an area I really don’t like and can’t seem to get on with.

As I was setting up there were quite a few fish topping and I was starting to think it might be a good day but apart from a couple of early missed bites and a lost carp, the first 45 mins was a write off. I went to 11.5 metres and finally caught a little roach, a couple of skimmers and a crucian but it just wasn’t happening.

Adding another section, I had a skimmer quite quickly followed by a nice tench of a pound but it was short lived and from what I could see it looked like it was fishing hard with nobody really bagging. I was hoping I might be able to keep putting odd fish in the net for the remaining two hours but it turned into a carp fest.

The scales started with Steve R on 37 who weighed 16lb 9oz, Alex on 39 did well with 36lb 3oz (including 6lb 1oz of silvers), Nick P had 4lb 12oz on ‘Cyanide Straight’ before Adie went into the lead with an excellent 56lb 2oz on peg 7. Roger K had 2lb 10oz of silvers, Glynn on 11 weighed 37lb 11oz, Phil B had 30lb 14oz and then Steve Collins went into second place with 38lb 8oz on 15.

Zooner had a nice net of silvers on 17 for 9lb 6oz so I handed over my nugget as I knew I had nowhere near that, Rog C weighed 19lb 9oz and then I chucked back a couple of carp before my meagre silvers catch registered 4lb. Paul P on 24 had 9lb 14oz of mainly carp, Gavin on 26 weighed 27lb 13oz, then Bill and Rich S chucked back before Harry ‘The Hat’ on 30 had 5lb of silvers plus some carp.
