How are you coping with Lockdown Version 3.0?

If you’re anything like me, the answer is probably, ‘Not very well!’ After two lockdowns and with several vaccines approved, I really thought there was light at the end of the tunnel and wasn’t expecting to begin a new year in yet another lockdown, with the virus seemingly getting worse rather than better! As I type this, fishing is still allowed as long as it’s local and common sense is applied (therein lies a problem which I’m not going into here!) but anybody who reads the blog knows I don’t do much pleasure fishing and freezing cold weather hasn’t really encouraged me either!

So what else is there to do? I must admit, I’ve not even looked at my gear since before Xmas, I can’t see the point, if you’re going to make rigs up or tie hooks, what do you prepare for? Winter river fishing or summer commercial bagging? Similarly, it would seem daft to change elastics or line, it might all be perished by the time we get out again!

I’ve watched lots of videos and podcasts on Youtube and Facebook and as always some stuff is great while others not so much and in some cases I get the feeling they’re struggling for content (much like I am!). I’ve read loads of books (not necessarily fishing related) and watched an awful lot of films over Xmas and the New Year (some more than once) including a Patrick Swayze marathon of Dirty Dancing, Ghost and Roadhouse! and even sat through the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy (there wasn’t anything else on, honest!). There were also several films on that I never tire of watching like A Bridge Too Far, The Longest Day, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Pulp Fiction, True Romance and even Notting Hill (an eclectic mix I know!).

My latest reading list (I’ve finished the bottom three)

I’ve updated a few of the Fishery Focus posts and I have got a couple of things lined up but if you have any suggestions please let me know and as always, I would love to feature more guest posts so get in touch!

Hopefully things will get better in the not so distant future, the weather will warm up and matches will resume. I know Bait-Tech have got some great new products nearly ready to go and I look forward to seeing what Guru will be bringing out next.
