Summerhayes – Open – 5th April 2026

After two cracking days catching silvers, I was hoping for more of the same at Summerhayes on Sunday. A great turnout of 24 anglers, I was top of the list this week and drew peg 35 which is a brilliant area for silvers. It was nice and calm as we were setting up but obviously that didn’t last long and the wind got up as the match got underway.

Peg 35 with Alex next door

I fed the usual lines before starting short and it took a little while before I got off the mark with a small roach, I did miss a bite but 45 minutes into the match, that was it so I went to 10 metres a lot earlier than I normally would. It wasn’t fast and furious with a little tench and a few skimmers but from what I could see nobody was running away with it. After three hours, bites were dwindling so I moved out to 13 metres and had a nice run of fish with several skimmers, another tench and a lovely crucian.

Alex was getting odd fish while Zooner on 32 and Dan T over on 13 were both catching some nice skimmers and it was all very close. I was hooking quite a few carp so with an hour to go I went across to the island at 14.5 metres which was hard work with the wind but I did manage to add a couple more skimmers, some roach and a crucian to finish up with 28 silvers and 3 carp.

McKenzie on 37 was first to weigh and had 19lb 10oz of mainly carp, Dom S weighed 5lb 2oz of silvers, Lewis J on Cyanide Straight had 18lb 2oz and then Nick did well on peg 4 with 11lb 5oz of skimmers. Nigel J had 34lb 13oz before Craig Lyttle on 8 was the early leader with 37lb 3oz. Charlie T had 32lb 8oz, Glynn weighed 31lb 14oz and then Dan T on 13 set the silvers bar with 13lb 1oz.

Bill ‘The Paste’ had 4lb 8oz and then Dave Romain on golden peg 17 stormed into the lead with a brilliant 95lb 2oz and was looking good for a bumper payday. Big Bad Bob had 9lb 3oz, Oscar on 21 weighed 38lb 6oz, Mark Leahy went into second spot with 69lb 15oz and Nigel B on 25 had 8lb 3oz of silvers. Bruce H on 28 weighed 37lb 7oz, Adie had 32lb 15oz and then Zooner had 15lb 8oz to go into the silvers lead.

Alex weighed 10lb 5oz and then it was my turn and it was very, very close but I fell agonisingly short with 15lb 7oz to finish second in the silvers.

So lots of really close silvers weights and I picked up £44 but lost a pound to Zooner.

Rob Wylde and Craig Lyttle both kindly donated £1 each and a nugget from Dan T saw the total rose to £266.
