Summerhayes – Open – 25th May 2026

Bank Holiday Monday and it was back to Summerhayes with the forecast for another blisteringly hot day, there were only a few of us so it would be a rover with most people hoping for a low number so they could pick pegs in the shade! Draw time arrived and I got choice 4 but the pegs on the shady bottom bank

Summerhayes – Open – 24th May 2026

Summerhayes on Sunday (and did I mention it was also a Bank Holiday weekend so lots of fishing with four matches!) with a great turnout of 19 anglers. I was top of the list to draw and gutted to see I was on 38 which is one of my least favourite pegs although it has been good in recent matches with Alex

Summerhayes – Open – 10th May 2026

Day two of my birthday weekend and it was back to Summerhayes but on Longs this time and I was hoping for a belated present in the shape of a silvers bunghole. Draw time arrived and quite a few of the pegs on my wish list went quite early and when my name was called, I pulled out 26 on the road

Summerhayes – Open – 3rd May 2026

Longs at Summerhayes was the destination for day two (of four) and I was hoping for a nice silvers peg but my drawing arm needs some new batteries as it landed me on number 9 (I’m blaming Dan T who was in charge of pegging!). It wouldn’t have been my first choice but good silvers weights have been coming out from Cyanide

Summerhayes – Open – 26th April 2026

It was back to Summerhayes the following day for a match on Longs, I was near the top of the list for the draw and pulled out a screamer in the shape of number 30 on the track bank. On the whistle I fed the usual lines at top four, down the middle, 13 metres and across to the island. It was

Summerhayes – Open – 19th April 2026

If you’ve followed the blog for any length of time you’ll know I fish Summerhayes a lot as I really enjoy the fishing on both the match lakes. Over the years I’ve gone through periods of preferring one over the other and at the moment, Longs is my favourite and I’m struggling to get to grips with Sellicks (particularly catching enough of

Summerhayes – Open – 12th April 2026

Thankfully I managed not to oversleep the following day and was able to enjoy a nice breakfast before heading to Summerhayes for the match on Longs. 17 fishing today and when I was called up to draw I pulled out 36 which was also the golden ball (although there wasn’t much in the pot after Dave Romain and Mark Leahy had both

Summerhayes – Open – 5th April 2026

After two cracking days catching silvers, I was hoping for more of the same at Summerhayes on Sunday. A great turnout of 24 anglers, I was top of the list this week and drew peg 35 which is a brilliant area for silvers. It was nice and calm as we were setting up but obviously that didn’t last long and the wind

Summerhayes – Open – 3rd April 2026

A nice long weekend at Easter always means lots of fishing (and reports to write up which isn’t helping with the backlog!), kicking off five days of matches, it was on Longs for Good Friday. Only 11 of us fishing today including Big Bad Bob who’d somehow cut the end of his nose and couldn’t stop it bleeding, Bill ‘Healing Hands’ Hopping

Summerhayes – Open – 29th March 2026

Sunday it was back to Summerhayes and when I was called up to draw, I was fairly happy with peg 19 on the bottom bank after doing well on 17 last weekend. Fed the usual short lines, 10 metres and pinged maggots across, it took a little while to get bites and I started catching little skimbobs along with a small tench.
