Summerhayes – Open – 4th January 2026

With sub zero temperatures and frozen lakes again it was no surprise there was a depleted turnout of only eight fishing today including Summerhayes very own version of Daniel Craig who apparently likes his coffee ‘shaken not stirred!’. We were on Sellicks today and with the far side iced over, Captain Pugwash (aka Adie), took to the boat to break it up.

Summerhayes – Open – 1st January 2026

Summerhayes was the destination for my first match of 2026 and after a hard frost there was quite a bit of ice on Sellicks. With only eight of us fishing Pete said we could have a rover and choose where we wanted to go, when it was time to draw, I got choice six which was also the golden ball (although there

Summerhayes – Open – 21st December 2025

The following day we headed to Summerhayes for a match on Sellicks and when the draw was announced I was hoping for a peg on the far side and got my wish when I pulled out number 22. For company I had Glynn on 24 with Alex to my right and Nick had drawn peg 8 on the opposite side. In recent

Summerhayes – Open – 30th November 2025

On Sunday it was back to Summerhayes for an open on Sellicks and I was hoping to draw on the far side (somewhere around 19-20 would do very nicely please!). We tried the Beefeater in Taunton for breakfast and it was very nice so will definitely be going back there again. When we got to the venue there were 16 of us

Summerhayes – Silvers Open – 22nd November 2025

Saturday it was a silvers match on Sellicks which had just received an injection of quality roach and skimmers from Big 8. I was really looking forward to it even though a few had fished it mid-week with just one roach being caught! Only nine of us fishing today and I was hoping to draw on the far side, failing that I’d

Summerhayes – Open – 8th June 2025

Sunday it was off to Summerhayes for a match on Sellicks and there was a great turnout of 20 anglers including Tom Thick, Hoffy (who I hadn’t seen for ages) and Andy Akehurst who was back again after winning the silvers on his first visit the previous week. With Pete and Sally away, Adie was in charge of proceedings today and got

Summerhayes – Silvers Open – 10th May 2025

A double-header at Summerhayes this weekend kicking off with a silvers match on Sellicks. After meeting Nick and Parker ‘The Pole’ for breakfast, we arrived in plenty of time and it looked like the carp were spawning with loads of activity at the near end and I said I really didn’t fancy peg 2. Of course that meant when it was my

Summerhayes – Open – 4th May 2025

On Sunday it was back at Summerhayes for a match on Sellicks which I haven’t fished for ages. There were 14 anglers booked in for this one which is a good number for the lake as we’d all have a bit of room. My favourite peg is number 16 and I came close when I pulled out 15 with the swims either

Summerhayes – Open – 2nd March 2025

On Sunday we headed to Summerhayes and I was hoping we’d be on Longs but when we arrived, the car park was rammed as there was a club match booked on there which meant we’d be on Sellicks. We’d had a few nights of frosts and with most pegs in, I had a feeling it might be a tough one today. Pete

Not a great start to the day when I woke up at 6:50 and was supposed to be having breakfast at the bowling club at 7:00! In full headless chicken mode, I rushed to Ilminster, had my food and then headed back home to get all my kit before heading to Bridgwater. I did phone Pete to say if I wasn’t there
